PROJECT MAPLE LANE
FUNCTIONAL / WARM / CONTEMPORARY
When our clients purchased their Maple Lane home in 2021, it was for the location—steps from trails, schools and the heart of Unionville. But the layout didn’t suit their lifestyle. A mix of past renovations had left the space disjointed, with poor flow and limited storage.
Our role was to reimagine both the main and second floors to create a more cohesive, functional and light-filled home using feng shui design principles. Working alongside a feng shui master, we created a new layout for the home that suited each family member’s wellbeing. The kitchen was completely reworked to serve as the heart of the house—now open to the family and dining areas, with a generous island at its centre for gathering. Enlarged dining windows bring in southern light and frame views of the garden, while a custom mud hall now maximizes daily storage for their busy household. A discreet private office was added to the main floor as well, tucked behind integrated millwork to remain hidden when not in use.
The multifunctional lounge and music room was designed with flexibility in mind—it can remain open to the main floor or be closed off for quiet use. Upstairs, we reconfigured the layout to create an expanded primary suite with a new dressing area and ensuite, added a Jack-and-Jill bathroom for the children’s rooms, and introduced a dedicated guest bedroom. A relocated laundry closet now sits behind bifold doors, designed for easy access by the whole family.
Our biggest design challenge involved working around a plumbing stack that ran through the kitchen wall. Openings could only be created at very specific intervals, so every inch of the design had to be precise.
We closely collaborated with our clients throughout the entirety of the project–our favourite way to work.
